Although the ICA Board is nine members strong -- a step up from where we were in the prior year -- we're still one short according to ICA bylaws. While ICA President Bill Feldman has received several inquiries from individuals within Cook County and its six surrounding "collar" counties, there is a strong hope to find additional representation involving any of the other 95 Illinois counties.
At this point, the board is meeting telephonically on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 so that availability is important, along with a strong interest in expanding chess in Illinois and enhancing ICA services. Finances for the 56-year old 501 (c) (3) are incredibly solid, so we'd like to hear from folks willing to work cooperatively to guide a sea-worthy vessel.

Have you been a few tournaments and pondered how all the pieces have come together, from the amount of awards to the size of the playing hall to the availability of places to sit between rounds? The entry fees? The number of tournament directors -- and their experience levels?
No detail goes unexamined! All these and more are discussed by the ICA's Bid Committee when they are asked to evaluate competitive bids for various ICA events.
Have you attended an ICA K-8 (usually in March) and/or the ICA All-Grade (usually in November)? What about the Illinois Open or Illinois Class?

The Illinois Chess Association is a statewide non-profit helping to promote chess education and the enjoyment of chess competition. We're an all-volunteer organization, and although financially solid, it takes a lot of human capital for the organization to fulfill its mission.
Effective February 1, 2017, a new Executive Board was installed, and effective this week, three new at-large board members joined the oversight of the organization: Jeff Yasumoto, Eva Harrison and Paul Carey. David Rockwell has agreed to become Treasurer through the 2017-2018 calendar years.
These four are already keeping the President on his toes with insightful email exchanges!

The Illinois Chess Association is seeking two additional board members to serve out terms through December 31, 2017.
Board members will have an opportunity to contribute their voice to the decision making process for the 55-year old 501 (c) (3).
Duties will vary depending upon skillsets -- but the core responsibility will be telephonic attendance of monthly board meetings (typically on the second Wednesday of each month).
This is truly an opportunity to make a difference in the Illinois chess community.
