Call for Nominations: Natalie W. Broughton Lifetime Achievement in Chess Award

The Illinois Chess Association is inviting nominations for the 2023 Natalie W. Broughton Lifetime Achievement in Chess Award. This award is presented periodically to a person who has made a significant impact on the chess community in Illinois through their contributions as a player, coach, organizer, or supporter. The recipient will be recognized at the annual Illinois Chess Association Awards Banquet, tentatively scheduled for November 2023.
In 1995, Natalie Broughton gave a generous gift to the Illinois Chess Association. She asked us to recognize individuals who have made a lasting impact on the chess community in Illinois. To nominate someone, please provide their name, address, and email, along with a brief description of their contributions to chess in Illinois. New Director of Warren Junior Scholars and Rising Stars

Feb. 1, 2023 UPDATE: Hector had to excuse himself due to lack of time, and Eric Luster will continue as director for now.
Jan. 1, 2023: Hector Guifarro will succeed Eric Luster as the Director of Warren Junior Scholars and the ICA's Rising Stars programs. Mr. Guifarro is the co-founder of the "Chess for Fighters" program and the president of the College of Lake County chess club.
He hopes his biggest asset for Illinois chess, and specifically the WJS/RS programs will be his above average love of the game and desire to be an advocate for scholastic chess students, particularly in the state of Illinois.

Thank you to all ICA voting members who participated in the regularly scheduled 2022 election of the Executive Board.
Officers elected, each to a two-year term, starting on January 1, 2023:
- President: Stephen Plotnick
- Downstate Vice President: Emily Dawson
- Metro Vice President: Eric Ortega
- Treasurer: Darren Erickson
- Secretary: Sean Hennessy
Write-ins with 1 vote each were Glenn Panner for President, Robert Bernales for Downstate Vice President, Hector Hernandez for Metro Vice President, Patrick Cohen and Stephen Plotnick for Treasurer, and Josh Flores for Secretary.

EDITED TO SAY THAT THE MEMBERSHIP BUTTON IS NOW WORKING AGAIN
Many thanks for patiently waiting for information about the technical problems that are impacting part of our website. While our webmaster continues to make progress towards fully restoring our systems, the button for purchasing or renewing memberships online is still unavailable.
To apologize for the inconvenience, the ICA has extended all memberships that would have expired in May, June, and July through the end of August.

Notice of Election and Call for Nominations

The ICA is calling for nominations of officers to the Board of Directors. Officers are elected in even-numbered years and are the five members of the Executive Board: President, Metro Vice-President, Downstate Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Officers must be residents of Illinois and members of the ICA. They will take office on January 1, 2023 for a term of 2 years.

Nominations must be supported by 10 ICA members eligible to vote (members age 19 or older with an active membership as of October 10, 2022), and the nominee must state his or her willingness to serve. The deadline for submitting a nomination is October 10, 2022.
Ballots will be distributed to ICA members eligible to vote by November 10, 2022.
The last day to vote is December 1, 2022.
