Rock River Chess is hosting its first-ever US Chess-rated tournament on Saturday, July 22nd, at the East Branch Library in Rockford, IL.
RRC is a new USCF -- and ICA -- affiliate that's working to bring chess back to the forefront of Rockford recreation. We're hoping to hold more USCF rated tournaments to supplement the plethora of non-rated chess activities in the area.
After hosting numerous chess events around town for the past year (chess at the city market, a chess parklet on the street, weekly chess at Prairie Street Brewing Co.), the time is right to get USCF-rated events back in Rockford.

The premier midwest scholastic championship is just over a month away, this year taking place April 29 & 30 in Dubuque, Iowa. Once again, the Ice Harbor Scholastic will be hosted at the Grand Harbor Resort on the banks of the mighty Mississippi.
This year's event features six rated sections and one section (K-6) where no USCF membership is required.
With the placement of the Denker / Barber / Girls Invitationals the previous weekend, it's hoped that Illinois will have strong representation in the Masters and Experts section. That competition is also FIDE-rated with generous Game/90; 30-second increment time controls.
