Call for 2012 USCF Delegate Nominations

Call for applicants interested in being Illinois’ voting delegates in the USCF

USCF has asked its state affiliates to choose this next year’s state representatives (“delegates”) for the USCF annual meeting by November 1, 2011.  The one-year term of office for Illinois delegates will commence on January 1, 2012.  Six delegates and up to six alternates will be chosen by the ICA Board from nominations received.

The next USCF annual meeting will be held in Vancouver, Washington on August 11-12, 2012.  If you would like to serve as a delegate, you must confirm your ability and intent to attend the meeting. This is intended to ensure a quorum.  Travel expenses will not be reimbursed by ICA. It is also helpful (but not required) if you can attend the series of Delegate Workshops held in Vancouver on August 8-10, 2012 in which much of the advance work of the USCF annual meeting is done.

IECS awarded 2011 Illinois Class Tournament

International Educational and Cultural Services, Inc. will hold the 2011 Illinois Class Tournament on December 10th and 11th. The event will be a two day tournament with two games per day in the upper sections, time control will be G90 + 30 sec. The site is the beautiful Orland Park Cultural Center in Orland Park, IL. Complementary parking is available at the Cultural Center property for over 200 vehicles and the event organizers will provide free pick-up and drop-out at the Orland Park Metra station.

The ICA Board unanimously confirmed the recommendation of the Bid Committee during last Thursday's ICA board meeting. The ICA also wishes to thank the Joliet Junior College Chess Club for its bid. Both bids were of good quality and the decision was not easy. We are grateful to everyone for their work in organizing and submitting their bids.

ICA Bringing 20,000 Illinois Games to Your Browser

Thanks to the work of ICA President Tom Sprandel, ICA has just posted a database of 10,004 games. The update coming soon will have almost 20,000 chess games: it begins with an 1858 Louis Paulsen simul in Chicago and ends with games from the 2011 Chicago Open.  The collection draws heavily from ChessBase, CICL, and the ICA archives.

We'd like to include as many annotated games as possible, but we don't want to infringe on any copyrights. If you have a collection of games that you'd like to contribute to the project (clean PGN or CBV files strongly preferred), This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

To see the database, click here.  You can search by game number or last name. Or choose a random game to view.
