Senior Kyle Groters is a Charter Member of the Timothy Christian School Chess Club in Elmhurst, Illinois. In high school, Kyle continued his involvement as a leader by attending all club meetings, advising younger players, preparing students for tournaments and teaching on occasion. His service as a member of our leadership team has been an invaluable as the team meets each week to promote chess in our school. Kyle’s dedication and service to our club has been a model of volunteerism in the scholastic chess community.
Beyond chess, Kyle spent a summer in Kenya working in feeding centers for children, was a member of Timothy’s State Championship Soccer Team, and was an active youth leader at his church. In college, Kyle looks forward to opportunities for service as he pursues a career in helping children in need. Our club motto is “Play for the King!” and Kyle’s life and play exemplifies that goal.
Timothy Christian Chess Club was founded by Todd Barre and Mike Engbers and assisted by a generous donation of equipment from former U.S. Chess Policy Board member and national tournament organizer Helen Warren. Our club meets weekly throughout the fall/winter and attends local tournaments in the greater Chicago area. Timothy Christian Schools is a fully accredited, parent-run, P-12 Christian school (1,000+ students) that places academic excellence and a reformed Biblical worldview at the heart of its mission.
