While a team of statisticians and auditors are pouring over the official US Chess ratings to determine eligibility for the 2018-2019 Classes of Warren Junior Scholars and Rising Stars, the national organization has been nice enough to post the June official ratings.

49 Ilinois juniors are ranked in the top 100 of their respective age group nationwide, with seven in the top 10.

Raj Chennareddy remains number one among US 7 & unders and Dimitar Mardov stays at number two for Age 9.

Raj is more than 150 rating points higher than his number two -- while Dimitar is within 100 points of the New Jersey master currently rated number one in his age group.

Dimitar is one of 23 Illinois juniors rated 2000 or higher, with 2200 in sight.

Aydin Turgut remains Illinois' youngest master at age 13.

Elbert Fang has joined the lists for the first time -- and his rating has jumped sizably since then!  Elbert's rating rose over 400 points from the K-1 section appearance at the Illinois K-8 Championships (March) to his post-performance rating at Peoria Academy's Spring Scholastic (in May)!

Ekansh Mehotra, Illinois' second-highest rated nine-year-old, had the largest ratings jump of anyone on the June lists -- rising 111 points to 1603.

Ratings compilations include submissions through May 16, so Chicago Open results -- and tournaments from early June -- will not factor in until July.

The WJS and Rising Star classes for the coming year should be announced within weeks.  If you think your child might qualify (qualifications are here) and they are not already part of the program,  contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
