52 Players From Illinois Competed at the National K-12s in Orlando on December 8-10

Warren Junior Scholar, Matthew Stevens, from Whitney Young was the clear winner of the K-12 Blitz tournament with a score of 11.5. Class trophies were awarded to Tristan Kenny, 2nd place for unrated and Luke Faxon, 3rd place for Ratings 1000-1199. Team trophies were awarded to Whitney Young for 1st place and Glen Grove School for 5th.
In the Bughouse tournament, Warren Junior Scholars and brothers, Nikhil and Akhil Kalghatgi, took first. ICA Rising Star Ricky Roman and Matthew Stevens took 4th.
Whitney Young had a strong showing in the 11th grade section. Matthew Stevens took clear first with a score of 6/7. Brothers, Nikhil and Akhil Kalghatgi, from Whitney Young each had 5.5/6 and came in 2nd and 3rd based on tie-breaks. Robert Bitunjac, also from Whitney Young, took first for ratings 1000-1199. Whitney Young took first place in the team competition.
In 10th grade, ICA Rising Star Deniz Gulecyuz took 8th place.
In 9th grade, Alexander Ursu, from Whitney Young, took first place for ratings 1000-1199.
In 8th grade, ICA Rising Star Ivan Nikola took 3rd place for ratings 1200-1399 and ICA Rising Star Layla Rodriguez took 3rd place for ratings 1000-1199.
In 5th grade, Max Gurinas took 2nd place for ratings 1000-1199.
In 6th grade, ICA Rising Star Jack Heller took 20th place with a score of 5/7.
In 3rd grade, Ekansh Mehrotra took 20th place with a score of 5/7. Gabriel Gronski took 1st place for ratings 1000-1199.
In 2nd grade, Temuulen Turbat took first place for ratings under 600.
In 2nd grade, ICA Rising Star Yuvraj Chennareddy took First Place overall.
