A fourth-round head-to-head draw gave two Bloomington-Normal area players the co-championship at the 51st Bradley Summer Open, held August 16 in Peoria.
Junior Jason Daniels and Scott Schmidt entered the final round with perfect 3-0 scores. Both blostered their post-event ratings above 1900 for the first time.
USCF Master Pete Karagianis and USCF Expert Bill Brock tied for third place with 3.0/4 scores, a half-point back. Karagianis drew Peoria-area junior Andrew Fei in the second round and took a half-point bye in the final round. Brock defeated Fei, a two-time Peoria City Champion, in the third round, recovering from a loss to Daniels in the second round.

Playing in his first USCF-rated event, Angel Guerrero scored an impressive 2.5/4, with two wins and a draw. His lone loss came against -- you guessed it -- Andrew Fei.
Six players rated Under 1800 posted 2.0 scores: Adam Chambers, Martin Franek, Yiliang Li, Daniel Garrett, Carl Dolson and Max Jong. Jong, another Peoria-area junior, was actually the top scorer for U1600 players based on unofficial pre-event ratings.
In the 10-player Reserve Section, James Kelly and Jason Li took co-top honors with 3.5/4 scores, drawing in the third round.
Overall, 33 competed in the Bradley event organized by the Greater Peoria Chess Federation and TD'd by Patrick Cohen.
The BSO represents the eighth stop on the 2014 Illinois Chess Tour. The Tour continues with the Illinois Open beginning August 30. Remaining after that: The Midwest Class, the Quad City Classic and the Illinois Class.
Karagianis has a commanding lead on the '14 Tour Leaderboard for the Open, while Fei, a previous Tour winner, has a sizeable lead in the Reserve Scholastic competition. The Reserve Adult seems to be too close to call with four events remaining.
Karagianis and Fei, along with another BSO-entrant, Rudy Padilla, are the three players with six tour events under their belts this year.
