Karagianis Enjoys Home Cooking to Sweep '14 Normal Open

Pete Karagianis went 4-0-0 to take top honors at the 2014 Normal Open, the fourth stop on the Illinois Chess Tour.
Karagianis takes a commanding lead in the Open Tour Standings with 15.5, five and a half points ahead of the pack.
The Bloomington-Normal area chess coach defeated two Class A and two Class C opponents, closing out the event with a victory over Peoria-area junior player Andrew Fei.
Sixteen competed in the May 17th tournament, officiated by Jeffrey Smith.
Joseph Alford and Shanku Nair were runners up, achieving 3.0 scores. Shanku went undefeated with two wins and two draws, posting the top score for U1600 players.
Carl Dolson, Nithin Sebastian and Fei tied for fourth place with 2.5/4 scores.
Nishant Bhamidipati had the top upset with a third-round victory over an opponent almost 300 points higher. Scott Daniels enjoyed a draw versus an oppontent rated almost 500 points higher, raising his provisional rating above 1000.
The Illinois Tour continues this weekend with the Chicago Open in upstate Wheeling, IL.
