Illinois Team Got Mate? Wins 2016 National USAT Playoff

 

The Illinois foursome of Daniel Bronfeyn, Jacob Furfine, Vincent Do and Todd Freitag has won the US Amateur Team Playoff conducted April 9. 

The Got Mate? squad had won the USAT North competition and won both playoff rounds to claim the championship. 

Got Mate? -- averaging 2174 -- was the only one of the final four with an average rating not in the 2190's.

The USAT-North Champions defeated the West's Rainbow Unicorns lead by Cameron Wheeler, 3.0 - 1.0 with two draws and wins by Do and Bronfeyn.

In the final match, Got Milk? defeated the East's Summer Chess Academy with a different script: winning the top two boards played by Furfine and Freitag with a board three draw from Do.

Earlier Summer Chess had defeated the South's Chakis-Mate, 2.5 to 1.5.

Bill Buklis served as the proctor for the North players.
