Chess X-Men Win USAT-North

The US Amateur Team (USAT) is a set of four very popular USCF national team events held around the country on President's Day weekend, February 17-19. This year's edition of the USAT-North returned to Northbrook, Illinois for the second year in a row. It drew 38 teams and a very strong field of 171 players, 48 of whom were rated 2000 or higher. Players came from home states of Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Texas, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Michigan and Washington.
The clear winners with a perfect 5.0 score were Illinois' own Chess X-Men, which included NM Mariano Acosta, Tenzing Shaw, Fred Scott Allsbrook, Pablo Diaz and Dmitri Sergatskov.

Second Overall: Hope & Change (Dennis Monokrioussos, Michael Chen, Peter Chen, Matthew Leach)
Best Junior Team: John, Awonder and Tommy have a Dream (John Veech, Awonder Liang, Thomas Schneider, Adream Liang)
Best U1900: Anonymous (Sam Schmakel, Aakaash Meduri, Avinash Rajendra, Alex Nevling)
Best U1600: A Draw is Good Enough (Jimi Akintonde, Mark Waechter, Christian Pena, Adrian Mui)
Best U1300: Scrubs (Derek Tu, Aaron Leon, David Moran, Ad Chempakasseril, Athar Qureshi)
Best Team Name: Bye (please wait)
Board Prizes: Board 1, GM Alexander Shabalov; Board 2, Tenzing Shaw; Board 3, Davis Whaley; Board 4, Matthew Leach.
The tournament was organized by Tim Just and Glenn Panner, directors were Just, Panner, Maret Thorpe and Keith Ammann. Bookseller was Checkmate Chess Supply and sets and clocks for the event were supplied by North Shore Chess Center.
