The weekend of May 19 to May 21, the usual qualifying tournaments were held to determine the Illinois representatives to the Denker, the Haring, the Barber, the Rockefeller, and the Irwin. Below is the full list of the representatives for each tournament.
Denker: Rohit Guha [4.5 of 5 score]
Haring: Anisha Oberai [4 of 5 score]
Barber: Anjaneya Rao [4 of 5 score]
Rockefeller: Sachit Rajkumar [4 of 5 score]
Irwin: Angel Angelov [3.5 of 4 score]
Polgar: Natalie Wisniowski and Shakira Luster [chosen based on rating]
There is no stipend for any of the representatives to any of these tournaments. Player representatives need to confirm by July 5, 2023 that they agree to represent the state of Illinois at the specific event. If the chosen representative will not agree to represent Illinois by the listed date, then another [likely second place finisher] will be chosen for that honor.
Please note that this year the deadline to submit representatives to the Polgar girl’s tournament was moved up into April, which meant that, unlike in the past, the second finisher in the qualifying Haring tournament was not chosen as the Illinois representative. The obvious alternative [which other states have used even for the Denker in the past] of highest rated was used. Illinois has never had (or allowed) the same girl to be the Illinois representative at both the Haring & Polgar tournaments. The assumption is that the highest rated will likely win the Haring qualifying tournament, so the second highest rated girl in Illinois at the time was chosen as the Polgar representative. Furthermore, that player was purposely excluded from the Haring qualifying tournament and will represent Illinois along with the highest rated girl, Natalie Wisniowski, since Illinois gets two representatives to the Polgar this year.
