Illinois-Iowa Scholastic & All-Ages: April 11

Go west, young man! And females! And older players too!

Rivermont Collegiate, a K-12 college prep school in Bettendorf, Iowa, is teaming up with the Illowa Bi-State Chess Club to stage a USCF-rated chess (scholastic) tournament on Saturday, April 11.

This event is open to all chess players from Kindergarten through 12th grade. All that is required is enough knowledge of chess to play the game. That is, you don't have to be an expert. All players will receive a chess memento. Top three in K-4, 5-8, 9-12 will receive trophies. If there are enough entrants, trophies will be added to the mix.

Entry fee for this section is $5.00 This section will play in the open area of Becherer Hall, so there will be a bit of background noise.

We will also be rolling an all-ages regular-rated section at the Rivermont tournament on the same day. Since we are a bit tight for time it will be standard Swiss, three rounds, Game/60;delay 5, two sections: Open and U1400. Entry fee will be $20.

After expenses the rest will be returned as prize fund. Be there by about 8:30 for registration. I'd like to get the games started by 9:00.

Fine details: third round half-point bye requests before start of round one only. Other rounds before start of round two. Maximum of one-half point bye request. Additional requested byes will be zero point. In the event of a bye in both sections, if a house player is not available, a cross-section pairing will be done.

This event will be held in the lower school hallway, maybe a couple lower school classroom, or maybe even the library. There could be a bit of noise leakage from the scholastic activities.

If possible, let me know in advance that you plan to participate. Contact email address: Gary.Chess at mediacombb.net
