August Chess Roundup

The dog days of summer are upon us and not all of the heat being generated is from the sun. A lot is coming from over the chess board. Here's some highlights from tournaments and rated play from around the state.

July 9: Lincoln-Way West High School Open in New Lenox, IL had 2 sections (Open, U1100) and 21 players participating. Crosstable.

July 11 thru 25 : Twin City Chess Club. 7 Players. G/30 + 5 Delay. Crosstable.

July 11 thu August 1: Greater Peoria Chess Federation. Game 60. Crosstable.

July 15 - 17: 4th Chicago Class Championship drew 292 players in this 10 section tournament held in Wheeling, IL. GM Nikola Mitkov, Gm Dmitry Gurevich, IM Justin Sarkar (from NY), and NM Eric Rosen tied for first with 4-1 scores. Crosstables.

July 17: BNASC Summer Series 2 in Bloominton, IL. 31 players and 3 sections (U600, U1700, Open). Crosstable.

July 17: NSCC G45 in Skokie, IL had 18 players battling it out in this 4 round tournament with Seth Jay Kushinsky going undefeated. Crosstable.

July 19: ILLowa July Blitz was held in Moline, IL and had 13 players showing up for 2 sets of 6 round G/5 + 2sec delay chess. Crosstable.

July 23: Springfield Chess Club hosted the Eighth Annual David Mote Memorial Tournament with 25 players. Crosstable.

July 23: DGCC#8 was hosted by the Downers Grove Chess Club. 51 players in a G/60 tournament. IM Angelo Young and NM Trevor Magness tied for first. Crosstable.

July 24: St. Charles G/15 tournament drew 16 players. Crosstable.

July 24: Renaissance Knights put on the 3rd Coast Challenge XII with 66 players taking part in Northbrook, IL. Crosstable.

July 30: Evanston Rapid July 2011 put on by the Evanston Chess Club had NM Eric Rosen going undefeated in this 24 player field. Crosstable.

July 31: Highland Park July 2011 G60 tournament had 2 sections (Open, U1400) and 46 players competing. Crosstable.

August 1: Champaign, IL . 16 players competed in the 2011 CU64 Summer Open. Crosstable.
