Warren Junior Scholar Tom Bareket Eclipses 2000 At CCC

Sometimes you hit a milestone -- and you just want to take a step back and bask in the glory.

15 months after eclipsing the 1900-mark at a September 2015 Caveman event, Warren Junior Scholar Tom Bareket finally became a US Chess Candidate Master (aka Expert), crossing over a 2000 US Chess rating.

With first and second round victories over Class A players at the December 10 Chicago Chess Club event, Bareket called it a day after the two wins.

National Master Raul Aillon, who recently returned to rated chess after a two-year hiatus, was the lone four-for-four finisher in the Open Section of the CCC Plus Score #6.

CCC's Bill Brock, along with Eric Starkman and Nicholas Geannopoulos finished with 3.0's, tying for second place.

In the Reserve, Ricky Roman and Zach Warsh both finished 3.5/4 ahead of a four-pack of 3.0 scorers.

In the RBO, Josue Juarez, visiting from Central America, finally played his first USCF-rated tournament, with five wins in five attempts, earning a provisional rating of 1830, despite a pre-event section maximum of 1200.

Along the way he defeated three unrated players, an 853 and a 367.

Congrats to Mr. Juarez for achieving a Class A rating in his first rated event!

Ben Bradley, Juarez' fourth round victim, won his other four matches achieving a 1487 provisional rating from the tournament.

Andrey Novikov, Ethan Ding and Oxana Malevanaia all achieved similar 4.0/5 scores in the Game/30; delay 5 competition.

Not to be outdone by his eldest son (Tom, mentioned above), Nimrod Bareket won all three of his matches before losing in the final round to the ultimate champion, Juarez. Nimrod enjoyed a half-boint bye in the second round, finishing with 3.5/5.
